College works with local partners on Berinsfield Improving Skills Project

23rd Jan 2026

Abingdon & Witney College has partnered with South Oxfordshire District Council's Berinsfield Garden Village team, the National Careers Service, Enterprise Oxfordshire, DWP, UK Atomic Energy Agency (UKAEA), Community Catalysts and Williams Jet Tenders to launch a new FREE 8-week Improving Skills course for over 19s, especially tailored for Berinsfield residents.

Together, they have co-designed a pilot programme of stand-alone workshops launching in February 2026, which is part of a wider Oxfordshire programme to make the county a healthier and more equitable place for all. For Berinsfield, this means making more practical skills, professional training and further education opportunities available within the village so that residents do not need to rely on public transport for access. The workshops will all be held at at Williams Jet Tenders at Vogue Business Park, in the village.

Improving skills for work and employment

This free training is open to anyone from the village, aged 19 and over, by module or for the entire course. Each module will be certified by Abingdon & Witney College.

The Improving Skills course will encompass eight modules each covering a different topic, including:

  • How to start your own business (delivered by Enterprise Oxfordshire)
  • Improving your skills (delivered by the UK Atomic Energy Agency)
  • Careers and jobs advice (delivered by the National Careers Service)

At the end of each workshop there will be a short talk by professionals from different sectors including business, health, science and leisure.

Trace Senior, our Curriculum Manager for Oxfordshire Adult Learning, has facilitated the College's involvement with the project. Here he shares his story and tells us why the skills training is so important for the local community:

"We are a community college working with our community partners to provide support to improve life and work skills so that everyone benefits but most importantly we’re doing this because we have been invited to do so by the local community within Berinsfield."

The College welcomes any Berinsfield residents to get involved, and would love to help them on the next steps of their careers. To find out more about the workshops and sign up please see our dedicated page: Berinsfield Improving Skills.
