Alumnus Harvey makes a splash in Canine Hydrotherapy and Rehabilitation

25th Feb 2025

We’re proud to celebrate the achievements of Animal Therapy and Rehabilitation alumnus Harvey, whose passion and dedication have led him to a thriving career in canine hydrotherapy and rehabilitation.

Harvey joined the College in 2020, enrolling in the FdSc in Animal Therapy and Rehabilitation. Under the expert guidance of his tutor, Lee, he developed a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. During his time at our Common Leys Farm campus, Harvey discovered his passion for hydrotherapy.

Building on his interest, Harvey went on to successfully complete the Level 3 Certificate in Canine Hydrotherapy, allowing him to refine his skills and gain invaluable hands-on experience. This qualification opened the door to a professional role as a Canine Hydrotherapist in a dedicated rehabilitation centre, where he spent two years honing his expertise. He then progressed onto the Level 4 Award in Canine Hydrotherapy.

With a strong focus on improving the lives of dogs suffering from mobility issues, he undertook the Level 1 CAM Advocate training, becoming a specialist in Canine Arthritis Management. This additional certification broadened his knowledge and allowed him to offer more targeted and effective treatments for his arthritic patients.

Where Harvey is now…

Harvey is now the Centre Manager of Top Dog Canine Hydrotherapy in Hampshire, and his outstanding contributions to the field have gained national recognition. Harvey will soon be featured in an upcoming segment on Crufts 2025, where he will showcase the remarkable progress of a complex spinal case he has treated. The segment is set to air on Channel 4 in March, highlighting Harvey’s expertise and the incredible impact of hydrotherapy in canine rehabilitation.

Continuing his professional development, Harvey is currently pursuing a Level 4 Equivalent Diploma in Canine Therapeutic Massage with The College of Animal Physiotherapy. This qualification further expands his knowledge of complementary therapies, enabling him to provide a holistic approach to canine rehabilitation.

Reflecting on his journey, Harvey credits his time at Abingdon & Witney College as a key stepping stone in his career progression, saying:

“The course helped me gain a great knowledge of how different therapies can help each other and gave me a general understanding of their benefits. It also gave me confidence, which led to my current career path and progression.”

Congratulations to Harvey on his inspiring journey from Common Leys Farm and the impressive career he has built. His work is making a real difference to the lives of both dogs and their owners. We look forward to catching him on Crufts in March!
