Performing Arts Students bring the macabre to life with The Addams Family, School Edition

30th Jun 2025

Earlier this month, our Performing Arts students delivered a show-stopping performance with their end-of-year production of The Addams Family, School Edition, from 9th - 10th of June at the Amey Theatre in Abingdon. This production was a theatrical celebration of family, acceptance, and the wonderful weirdness that lives in us all.

A twistedly delightful musical comedy, The Addams Family brought the audience into the heart of everyone's favourite spooky family as they navigated one of life's greatest horrors—meeting the in-laws. In this cleverly adapted School Edition of the Broadway hit, the spotlight was on Wednesday Addams, now a teenager and deeply in love with Lucas Beineke, a charming young man from a "normal" Ohio family. Her announcement sends shockwaves through the Addams household, and a dinner with both families leads to hilariously bizarre consequences.

The student-led production showcased exceptional talent, combining wit, strong vocals, choreography, and charismatic performances. Gomez and Morticia’s grim charm, Uncle Fester’s antics, and the eerie ambiance of the Addams home were brought to life with enthusiasm and flair, all wrapped in the show’s central message of embracing differences and finding unity in chaos.

Audiences filled the Amey Theatre on both nights, applauding not just the performances, but also the high production value, inventive staging, and the commitment of the cast and crew. The show was a testament to the creativity thriving in the College’s Performing Arts programme.

Mel Coleman-Clements, Head of Faculty - Creative Industries

“What a wonderful evening watching our Performing Arts learners in their final performance of The Addams Family. It’s the biggest and most ambitious show yet and they absolutely smashed it. So proud of the students and the staff who work their socks off to make this happen, and lots of extra staff and students volunteering to film the show and on the doors. Such an incredible creative community.”

Congratulations to all involved - you should be incredibly proud of what you achieved. It was an unforgettable evening that truly showcased the spirit of our performing arts community. What a fabulous way to finish the year!
