A fun-filled day at Common Leys Farm Country Fayre

9th May 2025

The Common Leys Farm Country Fayre returned on Monday the 5th May, welcoming hundreds of visitors to Abingdon & Witney College’s Common Leys Farm Campus for a fun-filled day of family-friendly activities, delicious food, and the chance to get up close with a wide range of animals.

Nestled in the beautiful countryside just north of Witney, the 70-acre campus was alive with energy as guests of all ages explored everything the day had to offer. Children were especially delighted by the chance to meet the meerkats, feed the farm animals, and watch the mischievous donkeys entertaining the crowds with their playful antics.

The event featured pony rides, animal handling, and a popular dog show and agility course, alongside face painting, a bouncy castle, and plenty of chances to learn more about the farm’s four-legged residents. Vintage tractors on display added a nostalgic touch and were a popular stop for both children and adults interested in farming heritage. Young visitors fully immersed themselves in the experience, with one child – ice cream in hand – joyfully exclaiming: “I loved the bouncy castle and petting the bunnies the most!”

A bustling selection of craft and gift stalls gave visitors the chance to browse unique handmade items, while the food stands offered a tempting variety of treats to keep everyone fuelled throughout the day. Among the highlights were vibrant displays by students from the RHS and floristry courses, who proudly showcased and sold their own plants, produce, and creations – a brilliant celebration of the practical skills and creativity they’ve developed over the year.

The fayre offered a brilliant glimpse into the diverse land-based courses delivered at Common Leys Farm, which include animal management, horse management, horticulture, countryside management, and agriculture. Many of the college’s higher education programmes are delivered in partnership with Oxford Brookes University.

Head of Faculty, Coral Ward, said:

“The Land Based Industries team put on a fantastic event; the campus looked stunning and there were some brilliant activities running throughout the day. This was a great event for our students to be involved in to showcase the skills they have developed over their course.

“This was our biggest and busiest event for some time and it felt great to be able to share our special place with the local community again.”

Another visitor added,

“It was such a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. There was so much to see and do – the meerkats were a big hit! We’ll definitely be back next year.

With its lively atmosphere, dedicated students, and strong community spirit, the Common Leys Farm Country Fayre was once again a joyful celebration of countryside life, learning, and fun.
