This course is for those of you who have some knowledge of Polish (about a year) or who have completed a Improvers course. In Intermediate course you will continue building on what you have learnt in your previous courses. The course is still very practical and based on communication and speaking. You will also start to discover other verb tenses apart from the present tense. In this course, you will also take the opportunity to look at cultural aspects of the language as well.
Building on the knowledge acquired in your past years you will be working with past tense and future tense expanding from the present one. This allows you to cover topics like biographies, narrate experiences, planning for the weekend etc. You will also look at practical situations such as buying, booking a show, inviting, organising holidays or to behave accordingly in social situations. This is a highly practical course designed to deepen your confidence and expand your knowledge of the language and the culture. No class during half term.
What next?
Polish Higher Intermediate A - Oxfordshire Adult Learning offer a wide range of similar workshops and courses, please check our website for further information.
Entry criteria
There are no formal entry requirements however this is a course for those who have already studied the language at school for one or two years, of followed a course for 50 - 60 hours, or else have spent some time in the country on holiday or business trips. You will already be able to cope with a range of simple everyday situations using the present tense and be able to recognise the past tense when you hear or read it. We are committed to ensuring that you have a positive learning experience and will therefore be reviewing all our classes after the first session to ensure learners are enrolled on a course that is at the right level for them.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.

Fee information
A text book is used to accompany the course but it is optional to buy this (average cost £20 - £25). The text book will support your learning for at least 1 year. You may also like to buy a small dictionary. Your tutor will be able to advise you at the first session.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

There are bursaries available to help you with other course costs. Call 01235 216 212 for more information.

The rules on fee reduction are complicated and we would encourage you to talk to our Admissions staff on 01235 216 400 to discuss your options. You can find more information on our Fees and Bursaries page - search "Fees and Bursaries" at the top of the page.
