Museum Drawing is a practical course that will help you to enjoy and develop more sophisticated artistic skills and a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Ashmolean museum’s wide-ranging collection.
This course focuses on the basics of how to accurately record, proportion, and shape, mark-making, through the exploration of different drawing materials and tonal techniques that will give your drawings form. You will have the opportunities to draw from artworks first-hand in the museum as well as developing your own creative responses to objects, and resources as the sessions will take place in the museum itself.

Each week the tutor will take you through a specific planned task, demonstrating and supporting you, one to one. You will sketch and develop your drawings using different tools or media in any way that you choose. In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.

Materials Required:Learners are expected to provide their own colour pencils, which might cost each student £15. You may also be required to bring bulldog clip or masking tape, erasers, and pencils. Your tutor will advise you at the first session as to what you need to bring. Please do not buy any material until your course is confirmed as running.

Venue and Class information: There is a cafe for refreshments or bring your own to drink in the designated area downstairs.Paid Parking offsite.Please note there is no class on 30/10/2024

Entry criteria
Absolutely no previous experience is required. This course is suitable for absolute beginners.
Fee information
You may be asked to pay an additional fee of £1.50 per session to cover basic materials provided to you to experiment with in each session and asked to buy some materials such as pencils. Please do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

As this is a non-accredited course, informal methods of assessment will be used, and you do not need to worry about sitting an exam or doing any coursework.
