This course allows you to progress and consolidate your learning at your own pace. This can accommodate complete beginners and those with some prior experience of life drawing, including some who have completed this course previously.
The course content includes:

· Looking at ways to represent the model

· Composition.

· Drawing in pencil, charcoal and pastel.

· Mark making exercises.

· Perspective.

· Proportions of the head.

· Line construction and tonal drawing.

· Introduction to human anatomy.

· Experiments with style.

Do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running.

For the first session please bring:

- A small set of good graphite pencils ranging from HB to 6B such as Derwent or Faber Castell. A good rubber/eraser such as Windsor and Newton or Faber Castell, (not a plastic rubber as they smear), A box of willow charcoal, (medium sticks). Drawing paper: a good cartridge pad A3 or A2. Cartridge paper is heavy slightly rough paper that has been prepared for drawing, it comes in weights 150gsm to 300gsm. Cheap paper is usually smooth and difficult to shade on, although you might like to get a cheap pad as well for quick exercises.

Please note there will be no session on 31/10/24.

What next?
Life Drawing is an inexhaustible subject and unless you are Michelangelo then there is always more to learn, therefore learners could enrol for further life drawing lessons. That said, if you can draw the human figure then you are well placed to go on to study painting in a medium of your choice.
Fee information
Learners are expected to provide their own materials, which might cost up to £20. Please do not purchase materials until the course is confirmed as running.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

There are bursaries available to help you with other course costs. Call 01235 216 212 for more information.

The rules on fee reduction are complicated and we would encourage you to talk to our Admissions staff on 01235 555 585 to discuss your options. You can find more information on our Fees and Bursaries page - search "Fees and Bursaries" at the top of the page.
