Discover the fascinating world of bees in this hands-on introductory workshop, where you’ll learn the basics of beekeeping and how to safely work with a hive.
Did you know around a third of the food we eat depends on pollinators like bees? Discover why bees are vital to our ecosystems while learning the basics of beekeeping in this hands-on Saturday workshop. Learn about honeybee behaviour, hive structure and the roles of the queen, workers and drones. Explore essential beekeeping equipment, seasonal hive management and basic safety. Weather permitting, observe a live hive and see how inspections are carried out. All equipment, including protective suits, will be provided. Explore the role of bees in pollination and why they are vital for ecosystems and food production Learn about honeybee behaviour and the roles of the queen, workers and drones Understand hive structure and the essential equipment used in beekeeping Discover the basics of seasonal hive management and colony care Observe a live hive and learn safe inspection techniques (weather permitting)

What next?
This workshop could lead to further beekeeping training, setting up your own hive, joining a local beekeeping association, volunteering with community apiaries, or progressing to more advanced courses in hive management and honey production.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
