It is estimated that one in five adults lack basic digital skills. This qualification aims to enable learners to develop the digital skills they need for life, work, or further study. At Entry level 3, the focus is on developing digital skills for life and introducing learners to digital skills for work. At Level 1 the focus is primarily on digital skills for work with a secondary focus on digital skills for life.

The course is assessed by an externally set, online exam.

In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.

The content of the qualifications is based on the National standards for essential digital skills April 2019. This qualification will enable learners to develop the digital skills they need for life, work, or further study as set out in the National standards for essential digital skills.

The course focuses on developing skills for life and introducing learners to skills for work and covers 5 skills areas:

1. Using devices and handling information

2. Creating and editing

3. Communicating

4. Transacting

5. Being safe and responsible online

Please note there will be no teaching sessions on: 23/12/24, 30/12/24, 17/02/25, 07/04/25, 14/04/25, 21/04/25, 05/05/25, 26/05/25.

Entry criteria
You should be 19 years old or over on the 31st August 2024 prior to starting the course and have basic computer skills, including:including:• turning on a device and using a password; • using controls such as a mouse, keyboard touch screen; • using accessibility tools such as changing display settings; • connecting to the internet;• accessing browsers and applications.

You should ideally be looking for work or wishing to improve your employment prospects by applying for this course. You will be invited to attend an initial assessment session prior to the start of the course, to establish your starting point and to direct you to the right level of course for you. You will also be required to undertake an English skills assessment.

This course is free to those who meet the eligibility criteria.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Learning & method assessment
Learners are expected to attend at least 95% of the teaching sessions. You will take part in theory sessions as well as hands-on, practical computer sessions.
