Last Thursday, our Level 2 Electrical Installation students had the opportunity to visit Westmill Wind Farm and Solar Park, a community-led renewable energy project.
Located in Oxfordshire, Westmill Wind Farm is a pioneering initiative funded through local community investment. It consists of five wind turbines and one of the largest solar parks in the UK, delivering clean energy to thousands of homes.
On their visit, our students were divided into two groups, each given a guided tour of both the wind turbines and the solar park. They learnt about the importance of renewable energy sources and how these technologies are playing a crucial role in combating climate change.
The trip offered a deeper understanding of the growing importance of sustainability within the electrical installation field, and a brilliant example to our students of what can be achieved when people work together. The Wind Farm is the first project of its kind in Southern England and its importance has been recognised by the award of a capital grant from South East England Development Agency (SEEDA).
The visit not only enhanced their technical knowledge but also fostered greater awareness of how their future careers could contribute to a more sustainable world.
