Get ready for a toe-tapping, heartwarming adventure and discover ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ like never before!
On December 7th, Abingdon & Witney College Performing Arts students will take to the stage at Cornerstone, Didcot, for a musical spectacular ‘The Spirit of Christmas’.
This year’s performance promises fun for the family and an exciting evening out, as students will be performing a modern take of the Christmas classic, Charles Dickens’ a Christmas Carol; written by lecturer Calum James.
In the modern twist, protagonist ‘Charles’, now in his 60s, travels back in time to the 70s revisiting his teenage glory days. Through his heartening journey, Charles is visited by three extraordinary spirits; Disco Diva, who leads him through the enchanting shadows of his past; Gigi, who introduces him to a new era of festive joy; and lastly, a spirit who is sure to be familiar to us all.
The musical showcase celebrates the best of 70s and popular music, featuring favourites for all generations including 15 hit songs such as CHIC’s ‘Le Freak’, Donna Summers’ ‘Hot Stuff’ and Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For’.
This year’s performance marks the start of an exciting chapter for the department as it is the first year their annual Christmas performance will be held at a new venue in Oxfordshire. The performance will be open to the public and the College would like to extend a warm welcome to local families and friends within the community to join them for the musical showcase.
Calum James, Performing Arts Lecturer shared: "I'm thrilled to witness one of my own creations being brought to life by such a talented group of students. Their dedication and enthusiasm is infectious and we cannot wait to spread some Christmas cheer at the Cornerstone this December!”
