Students enjoy Sports Psychology Masterclass

13th Jun 2023

Abingdon & Witney College sports students receive a masterclass in from IGPA Accredited Sport and Performance Psychologist Nick Wykes MBPsS, MSc, BSc.

What an inspirational day for our students as Nick Wykes, a former multi-sport athlete and varsity coach, delivered a motivational and insightful masterclass for our sports students last week. Nick shared his experiences about what life as a psychologist to professional athletes is really like, revealing case studies of real-life interventions that helped athletes improve their performance. He demonstrated the importance of keeping up to date with research in sport and also looked at the route that our students might take if they wanted to follow in his footsteps.

Liam Hare, Sport Course Leader at Abingdon & Witney College said

“It was fantastic to see Nick Wykes and hear his experiences as a sports psychologist. It’s so important that our students get to see the link between the theory they learn in the classroom and how this can be applied in the real world.

It was a privilege to hear Nick speak and my students came away from it buzzing with inspiration”

After the event, we caught up with Millie, one of our BTEC Level 3 Sports students, who said

"We had the pleasure of listening to Nick Wykes journey into being a sports psychologist. The thing I enjoyed most was how real he was with how hard and how much learning and understanding you need to become a psychologist. It was a real eye opener for us all."
