Student Reps Contribute to the Oxfordshire 2050 Plan

27th Jan 2020

Student reps from across all three campuses were invited to contribute to a major new strategic plan for the county, the Oxfordshire Plan 2050, with Peter Truman, Communications and Engagement Advisor.

Students were challenged to consider some of the vital issues that Oxfordshire will face in the future, such as housing, transport, and the environment.

Students enjoyed considering vital decisions; for example, debating if future housing should be built upwards into high builds or on a wider scale. The workshop saw students share and consider ideas on how products, such as petrol cars, may decline into insolvency in the future, and what new products might exist in 2050.

Peter Truman, Communications and Engagement Advisor for the Oxfordshire Plan 2050, said:

“The Oxfordshire Plan 2050 is all about how we can better plan housing and infrastructure to improve people’s lives and tackle issues such as the housing crisis and congestion while protecting our environment.

“Young people are the ones who will benefit most from the Plan so it is vital we are able to get their views on what they want their future to look like and how we can work to deliver it.

“The session was really engaging and there was some interesting debate. Many admitted the activities made them think a lot more about the future and realise there are difficult decisions to be made if we are to help tackle all the issue facing us.

“Their responses will be used to help shape the Plan and we hope more young people will get involved as we continue the Plan-making process.”
