Last week our Performing Arts students demonstrated their extraordinary talent in ‘Rewind’, a musical showcase that took place at the Old Fire Station in Oxford. The event gave the students the opportunity to perform in an industry setting, with professional sound, lighting and set. This showcase was the culmination of months of hard work, with students and tutors working tirelessly since September.
Dance Lecturer, Amanda, shared:
"The students worked incredibly hard for this performance, showcasing their talent and dedication. The audience's enthusiastic feedback was a testament to their work. For many, it was their first time performing in a professional theatre, making this achievement even more special.”
The show provided a dynamic representation of the performing arts world. Gymnasts, dancers, singers, and actors brought their audience back-to-back music and dance that took them through years of musical theatre and pop. The showcase included music from Grease, the Bee Gees, Britney Spears and Mean Girls, to name a few.
Calum, Performing Arts Course Leader, said:
"Working on Rewind has been a wonderful experience. Exploring the diverse styles of music and dance from past eras and bringing them to life with the students has been such an enjoyable process.”
With the direction of our skilled Performing Arts tutors, every student had their moment in the spotlight. Whether they were making our jaws drop as they flipped across the stage, belting a show-stopping musical number or dancing in perfect synchronicity, each student poured their skill, creativity and passion for performance into the show.
The students displayed a remarkable level of professionalism. They seamlessly transitioned from one performance to the next, through dress and set changes, dealt with technical glitches and kept impeccable timing.
For many of these students, this showcase provided an opportunity for individual discovery, as they begin to consider the next steps in their careers.
Calum explained:
"The students have worked hard throughout this project, and it has been brilliant to witness their growth from auditions to the final performance. I am very much looking forward to our next show later this year, which will take place at the Amey Theatre in Abingdon
We can’t wait to see what this young talented group bring us next and where their careers take them. Keep an eye on our socials and events page for upcoming productions!
