Three talented Art & Design students from Abingdon & Witney College were recently selected to showcase their work at the Origins Creatives exhibition this July, held at the prestigious Mall Galleries in Central London.
Organised by the University of the Arts London (UAL) Awarding Body, this annual event celebrates outstanding creative talent from across the UK. Among the 150 emerging artists chosen to exhibit were Chloe Williams, Lily Norton, and Rebecca Browning.
Rebecca Browning, a Level 2 Art & Design student, was recognised for her laser-engraved wood piece Threads of Love, which explores themes of resilience, belonging, and hope within the foster care system. The work invites viewers to reflect on the hidden emotional bonds formed in temporary homes.
Lily Norton’s crochet and latch hook wall hanging highlights the devastating effects of climate change and plastic pollution on marine life. Contrasting bleached corals with vibrant reef textures, her piece serves as a powerful reminder of the fragile beauty of underwater ecosystems and the urgent need for environmental action.
Chloe Williams created a highly personal and emotive installation exploring the impact of mental illness. Through facial casts, photography, and porcelain shards imprinted with her fingerprints, Chloe’s work conveys the experience of feeling trapped within oneself, the masks we wear to hide pain, and the importance of breaking free from emotional isolation.
The Origins Creatives exhibition is just one of many real-world opportunities offered to students at Abingdon & Witney College.
“Our students take part in exhibitions throughout the year and are encouraged to think and work like professional artists,” said Lauren Helsby, Study Programme Lead. “Being selected for Origins Creatives is a huge achievement - it proves what’s possible when creativity is nurtured in the right environment.”
