Local MP Layla Moran Visits Abingdon & Witney College

3rd Dec 2024

Yesterday, Abingdon & Witney College had the pleasure of welcoming Layla Moran, local MP, to the Abingdon Campus to showcase the college’s innovative programmes, dedicated staff and talented students, as well as its ongoing commitment to improving lives through education.

During her visit, Layla met with Jacqui Canton, Principal and Chief Executive, and Deputy Principal Jo Milsom to discuss the college’s achievements, aspirations, and the vital role that Further Education colleges play in the education system. The conversation also focused on mental health support for young people, a priority for both the college and Layla Moran.

Jacqui Canton shared her thoughts on the day:

"It was an absolute pleasure, as always, to host Layla at the college. This visit was a fantastic opportunity to talk about the vital role that Further Education colleges play in our education system. It was particularly interesting to discuss the important focus on mental health support for young people. As a college, we pride ourselves on the support we provide to all our students, including those with mental health challenges, so it was great to share the work we do with someone so passionate about helping us create the very best chances for everyone in Oxfordshire."

The discussion also covered the significant growth the college is currently experiencing and explored ways in which Layla Moran can support this progress in her role as local MP

The visit underscored Abingdon & Witney College’s unwavering commitment to driving innovation, empowering the local community, and transforming lives through education. We were honoured to welcome Layla Moran MP and share the extraordinary work we are doing to shape a brighter future for all.
