At Abingdon & Witney College, we're proud to be a leading provider of skills training in Oxfordshire - empowering apprentices with the knowledge, confidence, and adaptability they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving economy.
As demand for work-ready professionals grows, our Apprenticeship programmes are bridging the gap between education and industry. Through close collaboration with employers and hands-on training, we're helping to develop a resilient, skilled local workforce.
Partnering with employers to meet sector demands
Our strategy is grounded in collaboration. Events like our recent Business & Finance Employer Breakfast, led by the Business & Accounting Advisory Board, bring together local employers - including LTI Metaltech and RAW Workshops - to help shape curriculum and address skills gaps. These conversations ensure our training aligns with real-world needs and provides valuable work experience opportunities.
Creating business-ready professionals
One standout initiative is our 10-week Business Professionals course, delivered as part of the Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship. This on-campus course includes workshops on entrepreneurial thinking, communication, marketing, and critical analysis—preparing apprentices to thrive in varied roles and sectors. Our latest cohort, shown below at their recent completion ceremony, includes apprentices from employers such as BMW, Airbus Helicopters, and the University of Oxford.
Liane Green, Training Programme Assessor, explains:
"The aim is to equip apprentices with a toolkit they can apply directly in the workplace, setting them up for long-term success…Whether it's using AI in business operations or engaging with complex group projects, we encourage them to become adaptive, independent thinkers.
Celebrating excellence at the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards
We're delighted that five of our apprentices are finalists at the upcoming Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards on 22nd May at Blenheim Palace. Representing fields including HR, Accountancy, and Electrical, their success highlights the value of vocational education and the strength of employer partnerships.
Our Apprentices nominated for this year's awards:
These awards recognise the individuals and organisations helping to shape Oxfordshire's economy. Our nominees are a testament to their dedication, the support of their employers, and the College's commitment to developing outstanding talent.
We are committed to delivering innovative, future-focused programmes that empower individuals, strengthen businesses, and prepare communities for the opportunities ahead. Find out more about becoming an employer or apprentice with us today.
