Edible Sculptures: Foundation Art & Design’s Summer Project Inspired by Contemporary Art

23rd Sept 2024

Our Foundation Art & Design students showcased their creativity and culinary skills this summer with an exciting project that combined art and food. The brief was simple yet challenging: "Make an impressive edible sculpture inspired by a contemporary artist."

Students were encouraged to explore a variety of food preparation techniques, including sugar spinning, dough making, and piping, to craft their unique edible artworks. This project, inspired by Anna Holmer's iconic piece, ‘Breadwoman’, pushed our students to think outside the box and explore the intersection of art and food.

The project aimed to expand their understanding of art mediums, inviting them to consider everyday items—in this case, food—as potential vehicles for creative expression. Our Foundation students took the brief in their stride - creating portraits, animals, skulls, and landscape scenes. Here’s a few of their creations!
