27th Oct 2025
On Thursday 24th October, staff from across all campuses came together for Abingdon & Witney College’s latest College Development Day - a bi-annual event dedicated to connection, collaboration, and professional growth.
This term’s theme, “Connect and Collaborate”, inspired a packed programme of interactive, creative, and reflective activities designed to bring colleagues together in new and engaging ways. The day began with a warm welcome and overview of objectives from Principal Jacqui Canton, who joined staff online to set the tone for the morning and highlight the importance of teamwork, communication, and wellbeing within the College community.
Following this, staff took part in two morning activity sessions - each offering something different to challenge, inspire, or simply allow staff to unwind and relax.

Options ranged from team-based challenges like Build and Balance, Codename Car, and Jigsaw Building, to more reflective or relaxing sessions such as Mindful Colouring, Crafting, and Quiet Spaces. Others tested quick thinking and collaboration through games like Traitors with a Twist, Beat the Dealer, and the ever-popular Pub Quiz.
Some activities supported a meaningful cause, with staff volunteering their time and sewing skills to create quilts and blankets for children supported by Project Linus UK - a charity that provides comfort to those who are sick, disadvantaged, or in distress.
The morning’s sessions captured the spirit of the day - encouraging colleagues to connect across departments, build communication and problem-solving skills, and have fun together outside of their usual roles.

After a relaxed lunch in the canteen, teams reassembled for departmental activities and action planning, led by their managers. These sessions provided valuable opportunities to discuss progress, share ideas, and reflect on team development goals for the year ahead.
College Development Days continue to play an important role in supporting the professional and personal growth of all staff at Abingdon & Witney College. By bringing colleagues together in a day of shared experiences, creativity, and reflection, the College strengthens the collaborative culture that underpins its success.
Thank you to all staff, facilitators, and organisers who helped make this term’s Connect and Collaborate Development Day such a success.
