Building skills for a greener future: Highlights from the Construction Trade Event at Abingdon Campus

8th Aug 2025

Yesterday, Abingdon & Witney College proudly hosted a Construction Trade Event at the Net Zero Skills Hub, uniting tradespeople, aspiring professionals, and industry leaders for an afternoon of learning, networking, and innovation.

Held at our Abingdon Campus, the event attracted visitors from across the region to discover the latest in construction training and upskilling opportunities. From electrical and plumbing to ventilation, retrofit, and construction management, the event demonstrated the breadth of training available to help build a skilled, sustainable workforce for the future.

Attendees enjoyed the chance to:

  • Meet expert training staff and explore career pathways
  • Tour our state-of-the-art facilities supporting the UK’s Net Zero ambitions
  • Network with manufacturers, employers, and industry professionals
“It’s absolutely fantastic to be invited to Abingdon & Witney College. Events like this not only help raise awareness and bring new people into the environment, but also showcase what an amazing place you have here - many colleges don’t have facilities like this. I’ve spoken to a range of people, from local businesses looking to upskill and bring in new qualifications, to learners exploring new opportunities, and it’s been fantastic.” - Cassandra Baxendale, Business Development Director, Metaverse Learning
“I’m from NOCN, the awarding organisation for some of the qualifications. This event has been transformative - being able to meet experts, see the equipment in action, and have real conversations about what’s happening is invaluable.” - Representative, NOCN

The strong turnout and positive feedback reflect the College’s ongoing commitment to supporting the construction sector’s transition to a greener future through practical, forward-thinking education.

As part of this mission, we invite anyone interested in developing skills for a sustainable career to explore our Net Zero courses, designed to equip learners with the expertise needed to thrive in an environmentally conscious industry.
