A Creative Industries student from Abingdon campus has created the new logo for Paint Abingdon Pink, the annual community fundraising event supporting Against Breast Cancer.
Mattheo Royles, who is studying Art & Design Level 3, was announced as the winner of a logo design competition after impressing organisers with a design that captures the spirit of the much-loved event.
Mattheo and his classmates were invited to respond to a live client brief as part of their work experience, challenging them to refresh the event's branding while celebrating its long-standing connection with the local community.
His winning design combines a paintbrush shaped into the iconic pink ribbon with a paint roller motif, creating a striking visual identity that organisers have chosen to use across future Paint Abingdon Pink branding and marketing materials.

Mattheo said "Working with Paint Abingdon Pink was a fun and engaging experience for me, as it allowed me to gain an understanding of what it's like to work on a live brief. For said brief, we were instructed to design a new logo for the Paint Abingdon Pink foundation, one that would tie in the air of community with the themes they provided. Following my design process for this sentiment cause, I gathered images that inspired me from the themes presented and developed my logos through experimentation."

Organisers praised the students for the "creativity, research and thought" that went into their submissions, saying: "The paintbrush ribbon is a powerful representation of what the event stands for, linking creativity with the widely recognised pink ribbon symbol of breast cancer awareness. It communicates our message in a simple, striking and meaningful way."
Several other Abingdon & Witney College students were also highly commended for their work, including Tia, Amy, Victor and Juliana, whose creative concepts impressed the judging panel. The spokesperson added: "This collaboration between charity and education demonstrates the value of working together on community initiatives. It provides students with meaningful, real-world experience while supporting a cause that continues to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer."
The logo competition forms part of a wider partnership between Abingdon & Witney College and Paint Abingdon Pink, giving students the opportunity to work on a genuine design brief for a local charity. As well as developing their creative and professional skills, students gained valuable experience presenting ideas to a real client while contributing to an important community cause.
Paint Abingdon Pink was held in Abingdon Market Square on Saturday 4th July, bringing together residents, families, local businesses and community groups for a day of entertainment, fundraising and celebration.

Ahead of the event, visitors could also explore a special Paint Abingdon Pink exhibition at Abingdon County Hall Museum. The exhibition charts the history of the event and features the students' logo designs alongside artefacts, costumes and community artwork from previous years.

Congratulations to Mattheo on this fantastic achievement. His creative talent will leave a lasting legacy for an event that continues to make a real difference in our local community.
