Learn the essentials of watercolour and discover how to create beautiful drawings and paintings from simple shapes and colours.
This beginner-friendly course introduces the fundamental skills of watercolour and drawing. Learners will learn observational drawing, proportion and composition, including basic brush techniques, colour mixing, and mark-making. Students will explore simple shapes, textures, and compositions through hands-on exercises, gaining confidence in observation and control of the medium. By the end of the course, learners will have a collection of small scale scene paintings, demonstrating a foundation in both drawing and watercolour. No class during half term.

• Introduction to watercolour materials and tools

• Observational drawing: shapes, proportion, and perspective

• Basic brush techniques and mark-making

• Colour mixing and basic washes

• Simple textures and pattern exploration

• Composition exercises using still life and small scenes

• Developing visual observation and confidence
