Extend your knowledge of how to use watercolour pencils and a range of mixed media approaches.
Apply pen and wash.
Experiment further with different watercolour effects to produce creative textures on paper.
Explore and further develop your own personal style and painting signature.
Receive lots of help and advice, through demonstrations from your tutor, plus one to one guidance and creative work within a supportive group setting.
Please do not purchase equipment/materials until your course has been confirmed.
What you need to bring to the first session:
A4 watercolour paper pad - 140lb or 300gsm, no lighter ( a pad of Langton Rough is recommended)
Paints - such as Winsor and Newton’s Cotman range or Daler Rowney’s Georgian range- Tubes are much easier, so, tubes indoors is probably the best option, rather than pans.
Colours:
• Essential: Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Ultra Marine Blue, Viridian Green (or Phthalo Green, but not both!), Permanent Rose (very helpful for flower painters), Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ochre.
Selection of brushes- Choose from sable brushes at the top end, nylon brushes at the cheap end or synthetic Sable blends in the middle
• A big one and a small one. (Number ten round and a number two round recommended for smaller A4 or A3 sized paintings). If you work big then a large hake is useful
Small white plate/palette to mix colour on.
Jam jar for water
Kitchen paper
HB pencil and sharpener
Eraser
Your tutor will advise you of further art materials that you will need as the course progresses.

For the first week of the course you will need to bring a valid form of identification; this includes passport, driving licence, debit/credit card, Birth Certificate or National Insurance card.
Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2023 prior to starting the course.
Courses offered by the college are fully or partly funded by the Government and the published fee takes account of this funding.
Before starting a course, the College is required to check you meet conditions relating to that funding, e.g. age, residency status within the UK/EEA, prior qualification level and employment status. In some circumstances (such as with online enrolments), these checks can only be completed after you have enrolled and paid.
If you are unable to pay in full for this course at the time of enrolment, and the course tuition fee is £300 or more, an instalment plan is available. If this is your preference, please do not enrol online but rather call the Admissions Team on 01235 216400 to enrol.
Once enrolled, Admissions will take the first instalment payment from you and pass on your details to the Finance team who will email you to set-up your payment plan. Please return a fully completed instalment plan to Finance as failure to do so could result in being withdrawn from your course.
