During the 2-year programme, you will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of animal care and management occupations. This includes 9 weeks minimum working with an employer on an industry placement.
The Animal specialism covers a wide range of topics designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the animal sector. Key areas of study include Animal Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Diseases, Classification, Preventative Health Care and Treatment, Nutrition and Feeding, Animal Behaviour and Communication, Animal Training, Accommodation, Welfare, Ethics, Handling and Restraint, and Conservation.

In addition to subject-specific knowledge, you will explore broader issues relevant to the animal industry. These include sustainability; encompassing environmental legislation, sustainable development, climate change, and waste management principles; as well as biosecurity, employment rights and responsibilities, and career progression opportunities within the sector. The course also covers the supply chain and stock management, business organisations, enterprise skills, and project management.
