Welcome to Streetwise Cycling, an intensive adult road safety cycling course designed to equip cyclists with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate urban environments confidently and safely. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, this course will empower you to ride with awareness, assertiveness, and respect for yourself and others. Please bring your bicycle with you.
• Road Safety Fundamentals: Explore essential road safety principles and traffic laws relevant to urban cycling. • Bicycle Handling Skills: Master bike handling techniques, including braking, cornering, and manoeuvring in tight spaces. • Traffic Navigation Strategies: Learn effective strategies for navigating busy streets, intersections, and roundabouts. • Defensive Riding Techniques: Develop awareness and anticipation skills to avoid potential hazards and stay safe on the road. • Assertive Communication: Practice assertive communication techniques to assert your rights and communicate effectively with motorists. • Bike Maintenance Basics: Gain knowledge of basic bike maintenance and repair to ensure your bike is safe and road ready. • Hazard Recognition: Identify common road hazards, such as potholes, debris, and car doors, and learn how to safely navigate them. • Route Planning: Discover how to plan safe and efficient cycling routes, considering factors like road conditions and traffic volume. • Emergency Preparedness: Learn how to handle emergencies such as bike malfunctions, crashes, and encounters with aggressive drivers.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Learning & method assessment
This isn’t a formal qualification. Learning methods include:   A mixture of demonstration, observation and practical exercises. The tutor will be available to guide and support you throughout.
