Still life painting is a wonderful means by which to explore and develop the fundamentals of drawing and painting. This practical course provides a very good entry into still life painting. Students will be encouraged to look at things with a fresh eye, relish colour, and build confidence by developing and putting good techniques into practice. This intensive course is structured to suit learners’ pace and prior abilities.
Main topics covered:

• Proportion and relative proportion.• Composition and relationships of objects.• Colour theory.• Painting techniques including laying a wash, wet on wet and dry brush in gouache painting.• Creating a three-dimensional image of a still life in gouache by using different tonal patterns and knowledge about the main rules of perspective. • Techniques of modern artists related to still life projects.• Still life painting in gouache or acrylic with a modern abstract layout.

Absolutely no previous experience is required. This course is suitable for absolute beginners.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
