The Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Course is designed for individuals who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities within the construction industry. Delivered in person by experienced tutors, the course provides a comprehensive introduction to the health, safety, welfare, and environmental issues that supervisors encounter on site. Learners will develop an understanding of their legal responsibilities, how to effectively communicate health and safety requirements, and how to contribute to creating a positive safety culture within the workplace. The qualification is widely recognised throughout the construction industry and is an excellent step for those progressing into supervisory roles.
Course units
The course covers health and safety law, supervisor responsibilities, risk assessments, method statements, accident prevention, site inductions, toolbox talks, occupational health, fire safety, manual handling, working at height, personal protective equipment (PPE), environmental awareness, and the importance of effective communication in maintaining a safe working environment. Learners will gain the knowledge needed to supervise construction activities safely and in compliance with industry requirements.
What next?
Successful learners can progress to further construction and health and safety qualifications, including the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS), NEBOSH qualifications, IOSH training, and other supervisory or management development programmes. The course supports career progression into higher-level site management and leadership roles.
Entry criteria
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, it is ideally suited to site supervisors, team leaders, forepersons, managers, and individuals who are responsible for supervising construction activities or who are preparing to move into a supervisory position.
