Alteration and Making the Old Look New is an introductory workshop in clothing alteration and how to restyle into something new. It offers a brilliant opportunity for you to gain confidence in new skills in a relaxed and friendly learning environment.
During our Alterations workshop you will learn how to make alterations to a garment or two (maximum) of your choice and restyle using various techniques.

You will be taught:How to measure and cut out accurately and safely. How to amend hemlines, waistline and sleeves (lengthen, shorten and add fullness) How to follow instructions to add panels, collars, pockets and cuffs. Cover basic hand and machine sewing techniques.

Please do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed. Please do not bring any more than 2 garments with you.

Materials required: Pieces of fabric and trimmings that co-ordinate with your garments. Matching sewing thread (spun polyester 120’s) and some cotton thread for tacking. 25cms of medium weight iron-on interfacing for collars and cuffs. Basic sewing equipment needed for the day: Fabric scissors/paper scissors, colour headed pins, hand sewing needles, tape measure, tailors chalk or fabric marking pens, 30cms ruler, safety pin. Sewing machines are available, but you may bring your own machine.

NB. If you are bringing your sewing machine, please ensure it is in full working order and you have the manual, foot peddle and attachments with you.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.

Fee information
As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
