This course is ideal if you're new to the language or need a refresher. You'll learn basic vocabulary and structures to help you understand and communicate in everyday situations.
You will be learning the Russian Alphabet, basic grammar and vocabulary for the topics: words and phrases needed for greeting and introduction, words and phrases associated with travel and arriving at the airport, places in town, asking the way and understanding simple written and spoken directions, buying a drink and a snack in a bar or café, family and Russian name system.

By the end of the course you will:

• know Russian Alphabet (letters sounds) and main rules of pronunciation

• be able to order a drink and a snack in a café

• be able to use words and phrases needed for greeting and introduction

• know words and phrases associated with travel and arriving at the airport

• be able to ask the way and understand simple written and spoken directions

• be able to recognise the words for different members of the family

• understand the Russian name system and recognise some common Russian names

• be able to choose the correct way to address peopleNo class during half term.

Entry criteria
This course is designed for a complete beginner, so no previous knowledge of the language is expected.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2026 prior to starting the course.

You will need to buy a course book Ruslan 1 by J. Langran and N. Veshuyeva and a workbook Ruslan 1 by J. Langran (the cost is about £22 in total)

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
