Develop practical skills in roof insulation and airtightness improvements
The Retrofit Workshop: Internal Roofs - Insulation & Airtight Sealing is designed for professionals involved in retrofit, construction, housing, and building maintenance who want to develop practical knowledge of improving the thermal performance of roofs. As energy efficiency standards continue to rise, effective insulation and airtightness measures play a critical role in reducing heat loss, improving occupant comfort, lowering energy bills, and supporting net-zero objectives. This hands-on workshop explores best practices for insulating internal roof structures and achieving effective airtightness while avoiding common installation issues.
Course units
The workshop covers the principles of roof insulation, airtightness strategies, heat loss reduction, moisture management, condensation risks, insulation materials, installation techniques, detailing around junctions and penetrations, common defects, quality assurance, and best practice for achieving effective thermal performance in retrofit projects. Learners will gain practical insight into delivering high-quality insulation and airtightness improvements within existing buildings.
What next?
Successful learners can progress to further retrofit, energy efficiency, and low-carbon technology training, including Retrofit Advisor, Domestic Energy Assessment, Domestic Ventilation Systems, Heat Pumps, and other sustainability-focused programmes. The workshop also supports those involved in PAS 2035 retrofit projects and domestic energy improvement schemes.
Entry criteria
There are no formal entry requirements for this workshop. It is suitable for retrofit professionals, builders, installers, tradespeople, housing professionals, maintenance personnel, and anyone involved in energy efficiency improvement works within domestic properties.
