This qualification aims to help learners to understand the meaning and importance of infection control.
This online course will develop your understanding of:• the meaning and importance of infection control• the causes of infections, the conditions in which they thrive and the ways that they can be spread• methods used to prevent and control the spread of infection.

This is an online self study course, you will have access to a tutor virtually and via messaging. This course involves the completion and submission of assignments and you should typically allow 3hrs per week for approximately 12 weeks.

Course units
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of the Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings, learners must achieve 4 mandatory units:

• Unit 01 Principles of the causes and spread of infection in health care settings• Unit 02 Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in health care settings• Unit 03 Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in health care settings• Unit 04 Principles of infection prevention and control in a health care settings

Entry criteria
Learners must be aged 19 or above and have not previously completed a similar qualification to qualify for funding. Some courses may have additional specific prerequisites. Funding requirements can be discussed in detail upon enquiry.
Fee information
This course is free to the learner if eligible for funding from the Adult Skills Fund (ASF). The ASF is a fund that has been set up by the government to help support the delivery of education and training to people aged 19 and over. If you meet the eligibility criteria below, you can access this course for free.

To be eligible for the ASF funding, you must meet the following criteria: - Must be aged 19 or over (if aged between 19-23, you must already have a minimum Full Level 2 or equivalent qualification)- Must not have previously completed the course you are wanting to enrol on or another course where the content is similar- Must not be currently enrolled on any other government funded education programme, either with The Skills Network or any other college/provider- Must have been living in the UK, EU or EEA for the last 3 years- Must live in England

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
