This qualification serves as a foundational introduction to the adult social care sector, making it suitable for learners new to the field. It is accessible to individuals of all ages, including school leavers, adult returners, and those changing career paths. The course introduces essential concepts of caring and prepares individuals for employment in health and social care.

The curriculum covers a range of knowledge areas relevant to working in adult social care, including communication, equality, diversity, personal development, roles and responsibilities, information handling, health and safety, safeguarding, and person-cantered approaches. By completing this qualification, learners gain foundational knowledge essential for employment and further studies in health and social care.

What next?

It is anticipated that learners who achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care will progress to either the Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care or the Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Entry criteria

Learners must be aged 19 or above and have not previously completed a similar qualification to qualify for funding. Some courses may have additional specific prerequisites. Please see fee information for funding requirements, or discuss upon enquiry.

Fee information

These courses are government funded. To be able to study for free you must meet the following criteria:

- You must currently live in England

- You must have been a resident in the UK/EU for 3+ years for purposes other than study

- You must be over the age of 19

- You must not be an apprentice

- You must not be currently studying another funded course.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.
