A pottery course open to all abilities, we welcome both beginners and those with previous experience. We provide a supportive environment to help you develop your pottery skills, regardless of your starting point.
This mixed-ability pottery course is designed for all adult learners seeking a creative outlet while finding their creative flow in a relaxed, supportive space. This course caters to a range of experience levels, from absolute beginners to those returning to the craft after some time away, or those wishing to continue their learning with us. The course focuses on building a foundation of knowledge regarding clay stages and studio safety, while allowing learners to progress toward personal aspirations; such as creating functional household items like bowls and cups or exploring larger-scale sculptures. Throughout the term, we will focus on the development of both hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, leading into refining, decorating, and glazing your items ready to take home.

Over the term, you'll go from soft-plastic clay to finished pieces through a mix of demos, trying designs out for yourself, while also having plenty of time to explore your own projects:• Master the hand-building basics like pinch-pots, coiling and slab work, with chances to jump on the potter’s wheel.• Learn how to style and make your work unique; using colourful slips, stamps, carving textures and sgraffito, underglazes, oxides and wax resists.• Study the different stages of clay, the important terms and how to stay safe in the studio, so you truly understand the science behind the art.• Learn how to finish, fire and glaze your work for a look you will be proud of. Then your pieces are ready to take home and display, or can be entered for our end-of-year OAL ‘Arts and Homecrafts Exhibition’.

Please note there are no classes during half term.
