A Pottery course in which you will learn a wide range of ceramic processes in a well equipped studio taught by one of our highly skilled ceramic artists. You will produce a body of work showing development of skills and ideas in a relaxed and friendly environment.
You will be shown how to design and make a range of work using hand building techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab building, model making and the use of plaster moulds. You will learn how to throw and turn a pot using the wheel. You will understand the importance of clay preparation, the qualities of different clays and develop an understanding of decorative processes by experimenting with a wide range if glazes, slips, underglazes and oxides. Demonstrations will be given weekly. Beginners will learn basic techniques and develop these skills further as their journey continues.

No previous knowledge or experience necessary. All welcome.
Fee information
£30 materials fee.

All learners are allocated with a 4kg (total fired weight) allowance of clay per course, this is roughly equivalent to 8 very large mugs. Please note this personal allowance is not transferrable between learners or courses.

Once this weight is exceeded, learners will have the opportunity to have more work fired at a cost of of £5 per 500g.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Learning & method assessment
You will see what you have achieved as your body of work and knowledge base progress throughout the course.

Methods are via: - demonstrations - pottery quiz - on-going 1:1 discussions with tutor - friendly peer encouragement Observation/Demonstration- self-assessment- question & answer/reading- practical exercises- 1:1 tutor support

As this is a non-accredited course, there is no formal qualification. To track your progress and achievement you will be required to complete a short document.
