A payroll administrator supports organisations delivering in-house payroll or in a payroll bureau, bookkeeping or accounting practice providing payroll as a service.
A payroll administrator’s work could include processing and changes that will result in the calculation of net pay, interaction with internal and external stakeholders, handling payroll queries and complaints. They may also be responsible for the accurate and timely completion of routine and non-routine payroll-related calculations and other information. Payroll Administrators can work in almost any sector.

Entry criteria
Applicants are required to have a grade A*- C / 9 - 4 in Maths, or equivalent, and will need to demonstrate the ability to achieve all elements of the apprenticeship during their programme, including working in a suitable job role.
Fee information
Free to apprentices. This apprenticeship has a £10,000 funding band. Small companies will need to make a contribution of £500; large companies could pay through the apprenticeship levy if they have funds available.

Qualifications included:

• Level 2 Functional Skills in English (if required)

• Level 3 Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship

Learning & method assessment
Duration:

• 18 months practical training period, plus 4 months for End Point Assessment

Delivery model:

• Work-based training with your employer

• Day release during term time (approximately 1 day a week)

• Level 2 Functional Skills in English (7 days at college, if required)

• Off the job training will count for at least 6 hours a week of an apprentice’s time at work

• Ability to gather, analyse and process payroll data and information

• Can resolve different types of queries that may be presented from payroll customers

• Ability to deal with complaints, following processes and escalating complex situations

• Able to provide customer service using agreed systems and processes, taking ownership for work

• Can adhere to deadlines and process schedules both internal and statutory

• Ability to select appropriate media for communication

• Can build and maintain trust and sound relationships with stakeholders to deliver quality payroll services

• Ability to use computerised payroll software and spreadsheet packages
