Develop confident, sophisticated drawing skills through guided observation of objects in the Ashmolean Museum.
Museum Drawing designed to help you develop more confident and sophisticated drawing skills while deepening your understanding of the Ashmolean Museum’s diverse collections. Working directly in the museum galleries, you will draw from objects selected by the tutor, engaging closely with artworks across different periods, cultures, and materials. Through a series of structured group exercises, you will build core observational skills that are gradually brought together in more developed final studies.

The course focuses on the fundamentals of drawing, including proportion, shape, mark-making, and tone, explored through a range of drawing materials and techniques that give form and structure to your work. You are encouraged to sketch, experiment, and develop your own creative responses, choosing tools and media that suit your approach. Each week, the tutor introduces a planned task, offering demonstrations and individual guidance to support your progress. By the end of the ten sessions, you will have strengthened both your technical abilities and your visual engagement with museum collections.

There is a cafe for refreshments or bring your own to drink in the designated area downstairs. Paid parking around the Museum, bus stops near by, cafe on site, free Wi-Fi, wheelchair accessible. No session during half terms.
