Drawing at the Museum is a wonderful way to get to know the exhibits and create your own unique art samples. This intensive course is structured to suit your pace and prior abilities.
The ten sessions will take place in the museum itself. Each week the tutor will take you through a specific planned task, demonstrating and supporting you, one to one. We will work from objects selected by the tutor from the Ashmolean collection, following several distinct group exercises which we will bring together in our final studies. The idea is that you sketch and develop your drawings using different tools or media in any way that you choose. The focus will be on the basics of how to accurately record proportion and shape, mark-making, through the exploration of different drawing materials and tonal techniques that will give your drawings form. There will be opportunities to draw from artworks first-hand in the museum as well as developing your own creative responses to objects, and resources.

You will need to bring your own basic materials to use in the Museum - sketchbook or pad with a hard back, bulldog clip or masking tape and pencils only. Sharpeners must be enclosed or in a plastic bag. Tutor will advise at the first session on soft coloured pencils etc.

Paid parking around the Museum, bus stops near by, cafe on site, free wifi, wheelchair accessible. No class during half term.

What next?
