Life Drawing teaches you to look and to see. It is the best way to learn to draw and is an almost inexhaustible subject. You will learn measuring and construction techniques, look at how to observe the play of light and dark to create form, and learn simple anatomical landmarks and reference points to give further meaning to your drawings. Alongside this will be ample opportunity to experiment with bold expressive methods of representing quick dynamic poses.
Subjects include:- Basic measuring techniques: plumblines, angles, ratios, etc.- Single light source tonal modelling.- Chalk and charcoal working off a midtone.- Dynamic quick poses – bold mark making.- Simple anatomical drawing: pelvis, ribcage, and skull shape.

Materials Required:A small set of good graphite pencils ranging from HB to 6B such as Derwent or Faber Castell. A good rubber/eraser such as Windsor and Newton or Faber Castell, (not a plastic rubber as they smear).A box of willow charcoal, (medium sticks). Drawing paper: a good cartridge pad A3 or A2.Cartridge paper is heavy slightly rough paper that has been prepared for drawing, it comes in weights 150gsm to 300gsm. Cheap paper is usually smooth and difficult to shade on, although you might like to get a cheap pad as well for quick exercises.
