Achieve industry recognition as a competent electrician.
The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Technology (City & Guilds 2357) is the work-based qualification required for experienced electrical learners and installers who are ready to demonstrate their occupational competence in a real working environment. The qualification assesses your ability to install, maintain, and test electrical systems while complying with current industry regulations and safe working practices. Through the collection of workplace evidence and professional assessment, learners prove that they can carry out electrical work to the standard expected of a qualified electrician. This qualification is a key step towards achieving ECS Gold Card status and completing the journey to becoming a fully qualified electrician.
Course units
The qualification is assessed through workplace performance and evidence gathered from real electrical installation activities. Units typically cover a variety of topics and learners build a portfolio of evidence supported by workplace observations and assessor reviews to showcase their experience.
What next?
Upon successful completion of the NVQ, learners can progress to the AM2 assessment, which is the final practical assessment required on the route to becoming a fully qualified electrician. Learners may also choose to continue their professional development through specialist qualifications such as Inspection and Testing, EV Charging, Solar PV, Battery Storage, or other advanced electrical and renewable technology courses.
Entry criteria
This qualification is designed solely for those have been working in the electrotechnical industry as a practicing electrician for a minimum of 5 years and who can demonstrate their technical knowledge, performance and competence to the industry standard at Level 3 and in line with the current edition of the IET wiring regulations (BS 7671). It forms part of enabling the experienced worker to apply for an ECS Installation Electrician Gold Card. This qualification is not suitable for new entrants to the electrotechnical industry, apprentices, or other operatives who require any training, or those who have completed an electrotechnical technical certificate with less than five years’ relevant industry experience.
