Already working as an electrician but don’t yet hold a full Level 3 qualification? The City & Guilds Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification is designed specifically for experienced professionals who want to gain formal recognition for their skills—without attending regular classroom sessions.

This flexible, work-based qualification is delivered through on-site assessments, allowing you to enrol at any time throughout the year and complete the qualification around your work schedule. It’s the ideal route to becoming a fully qualified electrician and progressing toward ECS Gold Card status.

Course units
You’ll be assessed on your ability to meet the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for electrotechnical work, including:

• Health and safety in electrical installation

• Installation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis

• Inspection, testing, and certification

• Electrical science and principles

• Understanding of environmental technologies and regulations

Assessment is carried out through a combination of:

• On-site performance evidence

• Professional discussion

• Written assignments

Entry criteria
To enrol, you must:

Be 18 or overHave at least 5 years of verifiable industry experienceBe currently working in the electrotechnical fieldHold or be working towards the 18th Edition (BS 7671) and Initial and Periodic Inspection & Testing (2391-52) qualificationsImportant: To complete the Experienced Worker Qualification, you must also hold the following by the end of the programme:

City & Guilds 2382-22 – Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS 7671:2018 – 2022)City & Guilds 2391-52 – Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical InstallationsThese courses are available to enrol on through the college and can be completed alongside your on-site assessments.
