This workshop will teach you how to check and maintain your bicycle and to fix the most common problems that arise, to keep you safe when cycling. You will need to bring your bicycle with you.

The workshop is aimed at beginners and offers a hands-on introduction to basic bike maintenance. You will be able to undertake safety checks of your bike and perform basic maintenance and repairs to your bike. The tutor will take you through each process step by step with lots of opportunities to ask questions along the way. The workshop will be hands-on, so please wear appropriate clothing as you may get dirty.

The workshop is aimed at beginners and offers a hands-on introduction to basic bike maintenance. You will be able to undertake safety checks of your bike and perform basic maintenance and repairs to your bike. The tutor will take you through each process step by step with lots of opportunities to ask questions along the way. The workshop will be hands-on, so please wear appropriate clothing as you may get dirty.

You will need to bring your bicycle with you, together with your bicycle repair kit, which needs to include the following:

• Side cutters

• Puncture Repair Kit and Pump

• Tyre Levers (if not part of the Puncture Repair Kit)

• Adjustable Spanner

• Set of Allen Keys

• Crosshead Screwdriver

If you have a bicycle repair stand, please bring it with you.

On this workshop, the following areas of bicycle maintenance will be covered:

• Safety checks before setting off on a bike ride. (M check)

• How to complete basic bike setup, seat height, lever positions, etc

• How to check, adjust and replace brake pads and cables.

• How to adjust gears and fix common gear issues

• Repair or replace chains

• Checking wheels and tyres

• Replacing a punctured inner tube and repairing a puncture

It will also provide roadside repair tips to get you home safely should anything go wrong whilst you are out riding.

In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Learning & method assessment
The tutor will provide a demonstration followed by learner participation and experimentation. The tutor will offer one-to-one support throughout the course and provide feedback.
