A Landscape Construction Operative Apprentice will undertake practical operations required to create and maintain horticultural spaces. This includes both the soft aspects (plants and soil) and the hard elements (surfaces, features and structures).
Landscape construction specialists will install landscapes including building hard surfaces, structures and features and planting.
Coming soon in 2027! On this apprenticeship, Landscape Construction Operatives will learn to create and maintain horticultural spaces. This will include planting and maintenance activities, frequently working outdoors year-round and in all weathers, and at heights when pruning taller plants and hedges.

Duration:• 15 months practical training period, plus 3 months for End Point AssessmentDelivery model - Work-based training with your employer with some attendance at our Common Leys campus.•Approximately 12 on-site workplace assessment visits per year•Level 1Functional Skills in Maths and English (7 days at college for each, if required)•Off the job training will count for at least 6 hours a week of an apprentice’s time at work

Course units
What will apprentices learn?
During the apprenticeship, learners will gain the skills to safely construct, install, maintain, and repair a wide range of landscaping features. They will learn site preparation, measuring and setting out, paving, fencing, walling, decking, drainage installation, planting, use of machinery and tools, health and safety compliance, environmental sustainability, and customer service. By the end of the programme they will be able to create and maintain attractive, functional outdoor spaces to industry standards.

Entry criteria
Applicants are likely to have 4 GCSEs A*- C / 9 - 4, including Maths and English, or equivalent, and will need to demonstrate the ability to achieve all elements of the apprenticeship during their programme, including working in a suitable job role.
Fee information
Free to apprentices. This apprenticeship has a £6,000 funding band. Small companies may need to make a contribution of £300; large companies could pay through the apprenticeship levy if they have funds available.
