The Mastering Conversational Fluency course is designed for advanced learners aiming to improve their speaking and listening skills in natural, everyday Japanese. Spanning three levels—A, B, and C—this progressive three 10-week program focuses on reading authentic materials like news, current affairs on TV, and social media, while deepening learners’ vocabulary and understanding of advanced grammatical structures.

Fluency C emphasises speaking with native Japanese speakers in real-life scenarios, with a focus on using appropriate formalities and understanding cultural nuances. Learners will also practice advanced expressions and develop the confidence to hold meaningful conversations in professional or social settings.

Twice per term, learners will explore Japanese culture in Japanese-only sessions, providing an immersive experience to strengthen their understanding of both the language and the culture.

By the end of the course, learners will confidently engage in fluid conversations, handle complex discussions, and understand media in Japanese.

Fluency C: Professional and Formal Conversations

Polite Speech (Keigo): Master the use of formal speech (keigo) in professional and social settings, including honorifics and humble forms.

Formal Conversation Practice: Engage in role-play exercises to practice formal conversations, such as business meetings, interviews, or formal requests.

Problem-Solving Scenarios: Simulate real-life problem-solving situations (e.g., resolving conflicts, negotiating deals) using formal language.

Cultural Context and Etiquette: Learn about Japanese business and social etiquette, including bowing, gift-giving, and polite expressions.

Advanced Listening & Comprehension: Watch Japanese TV programs, news, and documentaries, and practice summarising and discussing content using formal language.

Cultural Learning (Twice per Term)

Japanese Culture in Japanese: Participate in cultural lessons entirely in Japanese, covering topics such as tea ceremonies, festivals, calligraphy, and traditional crafts.

Cultural Immersion: Gain a deeper understanding of Japanese customs, traditions, and history to enhance both language skills and cultural awareness.

Free parking onsite, bus stop outside. Bring own refreshments if needed. No class during half term.
