Cheney SchoolFluency A focuses on current affairs, where you will engage in discussions about news and contemporary issues, expanding vocabulary and learning to express opinions with greater fluency.Twice per term, you will explore Japanese culture in Japanese-only sessions, providing an immersive experience to strengthen their understanding of both the language and the culture.
By the end of the course, learners will confidently engage in fluid conversations, handle complex discussions, and understand media in Japanese."
Current Events Discussions: Engage in discussions about global and Japanese news, including politics, economics, and social issues.Vocabulary Expansion: Learn vocabulary related to current affairs, such as terms used in the media, government, and economics.Opinion Expression: Practice expressing personal opinions on controversial topics, using appropriate expressions and phrases.Listening to News: Develop listening skills by watching Japanese news programs, podcasts, and news clips, followed by discussions and summaries.Advanced Grammar Practice: Reinforce complex sentence structures used in news articles, such as conditionals, passive voice, and relative clauses.
Cultural Learning (Twice per Term)
Japanese Culture in Japanese: Participate in cultural lessons entirely in Japanese, covering topics such as tea ceremonies, festivals, calligraphy, and traditional crafts.Cultural Immersion: Gain a deeper understanding of Japanese customs, traditions, and history to enhance both language skills and cultural awareness.
