In this course you will explore different design and fusing techniques to create lovely unique glass artworks of your own. They can either be functional or decorative. Enjoy exploring your creativity through Kiln Formed Glass. You will complete two projects during the day-Kiln Carving and Metal Inclusions. Both these projects are suitable for a further firing to create a shallow dish or you might just wish to use it as a serving platter or decorative panel.

"

Project 1: Kiln Carving- “Kiln-carving” is a term to describe a kiln forming process that achieves a bas relief, textured, or sculpted look in glass. The process involves cutting a pattern or design in ceramic fibre paper, then stacking glass on top of the pattern and firing the piece in a kiln. The underside of the glass takes up the ceramic fibre paper pattern and creates contours and textures within the glass.

Project 2: Metal Inclusions-During this workshop you have the opportunity to experiment with non- glass materials to see what is compatible with glass and how it reacts once fired in a kiln. We will create a design with a variety of metals like copper, tinfoil, copper oxide, and wires to be included within two sheets of glass. This will create very interesting textures and results in the glass.
