Discover the art of Kiln Formed Glass by exploring design and fusing techniques to create unique functional or decorative glass artworks.
In this hands-on course, you will explore a variety of design and fusing techniques to create beautiful and one-of-a-kind glass artworks. Whether you prefer functional pieces or decorative panels, this course encourages you to unleash your creativity through the exciting medium of Kiln Formed Glass.

You will complete two distinct projects during the day: Kiln Carving and Metal Inclusions. Both projects can be further fired to transform into shallow dishes, or they can be used as serving platters or decorative panels.

Project 1: Kiln CarvingKiln carving is a kiln forming process that produces a bas relief, textured, or sculpted effect in glass. This is achieved by cutting a pattern or design into ceramic fibre paper, stacking glass on top, and firing it in a kiln. The glass picks up the pattern from the fibre paper, creating beautiful contours and textures on the underside.

Project 2: Metal InclusionsIn this project, you will experiment with non-glass materials to discover how they interact with glass during firing. Using a variety of metals such as copper, tinfoil, copper oxide, and wire, you will create unique textures and effects by sandwiching these materials between two sheets of glass.

This course is perfect for anyone looking to explore creative possibilities with glass and develop their skills in kiln forming techniques.
