Cheney SchoolProject 1: Op Art. Inspired by the art style of the 1960s you will learn how to create optical illusions in your glass. We will create an illusion of movement like swelling or warping within the glass. Different colour combinations and patterns can be considered to create a very unique glass platter.
Project 2: Glass Fused Mosaic. Design a picture by inlaying small pieces of glass and then grouting it with glass powders to create an intricate and colourful glass ‘painting’. Your glass mosaic will be fused together. You can either create a small wall hanging or a shallow slumped platter which will involve a second firing.
Skills/Techniques Covered:
• Design techniques and special effects
• Fusing processes
• Glass Cutting Techniques
• Melting glass stringers over a flame.
• Preparation of moulds for slumping
• Health and Safety when working with glass materials
Please bring with you:
• a sketchbook/notebook and pen
• photos, patterns and pictures to use as inspiration
• a dust mask
• an apron
• an old but clean dishcloth is useful
• wear closed-toe shoes
Free parking onsite, bus stop outside. Bring own refreshments if needed. No class during half term.
