Begin your journey into German with this complete beginners course, focused on building confidence in everyday conversations and essential grammar.
This course is designed for complete beginners who want to take their first steps in learning German. It will introduce you to the fundamentals of the language, enabling you to talk about yourself and ask and answer simple questions about personal details such as name, nationality, job, and telephone number. You will also learn how to describe family members, order drinks and snacks in a café, ask for places in a town, and give simple directions.

“Rusty” beginners who have studied very little German before and feel they need practice and revision are also welcome. However, if you already know more than the basics, you may find the course too slow or easy for your needs.

The course will cover key grammatical concepts to support your communication, with the main emphasis on speaking, listening, and pronunciation. You will develop an understanding of the German phonics system so that you can apply it confidently to new words. Alongside oral practice, you will complete some basic reading and writing tasks, including short dialogues and interviews, to reinforce your learning.

By the end of the course, you will have a solid foundation to begin using German in everyday situations and to continue building your skills.
