Our Gateway Programme is a flexible study programme designed for young people who have been out of formal education. This programme provides a welcoming and supportive environment where you can re-engage with learning, overcome barriers, and build the confidence needed to progress towards vocational education pathways.
With a carefully structured curriculum, the Gateway Programme supports gradual reintegration into education, offering personalised learning opportunities for those with low academic achievements. For those ready, vocational tasters are available to explore career options and inform future steps.

On the Gateway Programme you will focus on achieving key qualifications, including:

• GCSE English and Maths and/or Functional Skills.

• AQA Unit Award - a flexible accreditation scheme.

What next?
Gateway students generally progress to a vocational course within the College - this could be at any level and will depend on the qualifications you have achieved. Gateway staff will work with you throughout the year to identify your area of choice and support you to understand the curriculum and meet key staff members to ensure a smooth transition.
Entry criteria
No formal entry requirements however Gateway students will not have been engaged in education for a substantial period of time.

Learning & method assessment
A group of students are made up of very mixed abilities and our sessions are tailored to the needs of the individuals. Teaching is done via workshop sessions, where the class is supported by the Learning Support Advisor (LSA) and Mentor.

The Mentor will also conduct 1:1 support meetings during this time. A Co-ordinator works across both sites, accessing each equally and offering tailored sessions.

We know that not all of our workshop sessions will appeal to or are needed by every student and therefore we offer a flexible timetable, with the option for students to opt out of workshops if needed.
