Learn to design and lay out garden borders in this indoor, theory-based workshop. Explore plant selection, edging options, and key planning steps. Bring paper and pencil to sketch ideas and create a plant list.
• Key considerations before creating a new border or bed

• Understanding soil, light, and drainage requirements

• Basic design principles: shape, structure, and layering

• Plant selection: perennials, shrubs, and seasonal interest

• Edging options: practical and aesthetic choices

• Common mistakes and how to avoid them

• Sketching a basic border plan and developing a plant list

• Q&A and practical tips for getting started at home

Please bring paper and a pencil to the workshop to sketch out design ideas and start creating a suggested plant list for your garden border. If you have an existing border in mind, then the bring a diagram of it with sizes of key lengths marked.

Learning & method assessment
This is both a theory based and practical course. Learners will be able to participate in weekly, classroom activities to build and share knowledge alongside their peers as well as working in the garden to develop their practical gardening skills and learn new techniques. There is no exam attached to this course.

As this is a non-accredited course, there is no formal qualification. To track your progress and achievement you will be required to complete a short document.
