French - Mastering Conversational Fluency A is delivered at the level C1 of the European Framework for languages with the aim of reaching a C2 level. Students are expected to have a good command of the language, both written and spoken, with a practice of at least three past tenses, the conditional, the future tense and some knowledge of the subjunctive to consolidate. They will work with newspapers articles, films extracts, documentaries, literature, legal and business documents, etc.... in different areas such as Science, Art, Architecture, Ways of life, and more.
In this course, students will be working on magazine articles, fragments from tv programs, radio programmes, videos, book extracts, etc... related to a broad range of topics from equality, technology, environment, cinema, to personal memories or literature. Students will be able to discuss the material, provide and defend opinions, and use grammar points, vocabulary and idiomatic expressions in these materials, using formal, informal and even colloquial French. This course also covers sociocultural aspects of France and of other French speaking countries.

Please note due to half term there will be no session on 28/10/2025.

Entry criteria
Students doing this course have a good command of the language, both written and spoken. They have previously followed a B2/C1 course or about 5 years of French, or else, a French Developing Fluency course, or have previously lived and worked in a French context, using French on a regular basis.

You may like to buy a small dictionary. Your tutor will be able to advise you at the first session.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate.

Learning & method assessment
Learning activities will include individual, pair, small group and whole class work. You will listen to the spoken word through conversation activities, CDs and DVDs, practise speaking, play games, read more complex texts and write accounts. This is not an accredited course so there will be no formal examination. However, your tutor will ask you to complete informal assessment exercises and will give you feedback.

As this is a non-accredited course, there is no formal qualification. To track your progress and achievement you will be required to complete a short document.
